Technical Requirements

Welcome! Please review the following recommendations prior to starting the Program:

Jesus with Computer

Introduction:

The Mystical Mind Training (MMT) Program is available through Moodle, which is a user-friendly e-learning software platform. Many universities and educators around the world use this platform to make courses and programs available online. Although Moodle is easy to use, you will need to be "computer literate" to participate in MMT. If you are new to technology or you are new to your computer/laptop, explore your computer and the following applications/accessories thoroughly before enrolling in MMT. Attend some basic training courses if necessary.

Helpful hint: Search engines such as Google and video-sharing websites such as YouTube can be very helpful in answering any questions you may have.

Basic Requirements:

You will need to download and be reasonably proficient in using the following (see section B for detailed information and links):
  • Web browser – We suggest Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Safari as they are the most thoroughly tested browsers with MMT. We would recommend against using Internet Explorer as we have noticed some minor issues in that browser.
  • Skype – To make and receive calls with participants and staff, and to participate in group calls. You will need to know how to use a headset, mute your microphone, and join a group call.
  • Documents – To make and save text documents using a application such as Word, NotePad, TextEdit, or OpenOffice.
  • Folders – To make and save/organize folders on your computer.
  • Email – To send, receive, and save/organize emails. We recommend keeping your inbox clear, and using a system of folders to save/organize emails.

A. Minimum system requirements for computers:

If you currently own a computer:
  • Mac
    • G4 800 Mhz processor or faster.
    • Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard or later.
    • For higher-resolution video, a faster processor (Core 2 Duo) and a broadband connection with at least 384kbps upload speeds.
    • 512 MB RAM.
    • 40 MB free disk space on your hard drive.
    • Internet connection: Broadband (or better) is recommended, GPRS is not supported for voice calls, and results may vary on a satellite connection.
    • Set resolution to a minimum of 1024x768 (greater is recommended). Check your display settings on your computer. Page designs may run off your displays if they do not meet these requirements.
  • PC (Windows)
    • Windows 2000, XP, or Vista (Windows 2000 users require DirectX 9.0 for video calls).
    • Internet connection: Broadband (or better) is recommended, GPRS is not supported for voice calls, and results may vary on a satellite connection.
    • Speakers and microphone – built-in or separate.
    • For voice and video calls we recommend a computer with at least a 1GHz processor, 256 MB RAM, and a webcam.
    • For high quality video calls you will need a high quality video webcam and software, a dual-core processor computer, and a fast broadband connection (384 kbps).
    • Set resolution to a minimum of 1024x768 (greater is recommended). Check your display settings on your computer. Page designs may run off your displays if they do not meet these requirements.
Recommend minimum requirements if you will be purchasing a new computer:
  • Macintosh, Windows, or Linux based PCs, laptop or desktop
    • Dual core processors 2.0 GHz or higher.
    • 2 GB RAM (minimum).
    • Wireless card installed.
    • 160 GB Hard Drive or higher.
    • Set resolution to a minimum of 1024x768 (greater is recommended). Check your display settings on your computer. Page designs may run off your displays if they do not meet these requirements.

B. Internet browsers and plugins:

  • The following downloads and installs are recommended (all are free):
    • Google ChromeFirefox, and Safari are the most thoroughly tested browsers with MMT, but the Program should be compatible with most major web browsers (though we have seen minor issues in Internet Explorer). Please make sure your are using the most up-to-date version of your browser.
      • Some of the courses use pop-up windows, therefore you may need to disable pop-up blockers in your browser. Some blockers may be turned off on Windows by right-clicking an icon on the system tray, next to where the clock resides.
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader (or alternative PDF reader): To read the PDF documents.
    • Adobe Flash Player: This browser plugin may be needed for video playback.
    • Skype: For online chats, video chats, conference calls.
      • You can use your built-in speakers and microphone.
      • Recommendation: Purchase a good headset/microphone combo with a good quality web cam.

C. Internet access:

  • MMT makes use of robust media to facilitate transfer of training. Having the fastest internet connection is advised. Check your local internet service provider for available high speed internet access plans.

D. Supplementary:

  • Word Processing
    • Mac
      • OpenOffice: If you don't have Microsoft Word to read the .doc files, you can use this free application.
    • Mac or PC
      • Google Docs to read the Word .doc files (you'll need to set up a Google account).

E. Mobile Moodle:

  • Moodle is mobile-compatible and should display on most devices (in some cases, you may need to update to the most current version for your operating system in order to access audio/video players). In order to maximize available screen space, it is recommended that you dock or un-dock any blocks that may appear in the sidebar (whichever option provides you with more screen space on your device).
  • If you find the text size on larger mobile devices (e.g. Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy, etc.) to be too small to read, please try adjusting the text or zoom settings on your device (e.g. General > Accessibility or Settings > Display). In addition, "readability" features such as "Reader View" in the Safari browser currently work on some pages and may help when reading through larger sections of text. Lastly, on some devices, you can double-tap the text you want to read so that it enlarges to fit the width of the screen.

F. Permission:

  • Many of the audio and video resources within MMT are not produced by us, and they have copyright restrictions. We have permission to use many of the resources within the Program for educational purposes only, which means we can use them for teaching, but not for distribution. Please do not download audio or video files from MMT to your computer with the exception of the audios in the Audio Downloads section.
